Higher National Agronomic School which people commonly call ENSA operates as a leading public research facility that exists in El Harrach Algiers Algeria. The institution which functions as Algeria's oldest educational establishment serves as the primary research center for advanced agricultural studies throughout the entire eastern region of the nation. The university campus occupies an important academic area which contains various national educational institutions and showcases a special combination of Moorish building designs and extensive green areas. The institution's history began in 1905 when it was founded as the Agricultural Algerian School under the direction of M. de Peyerimhof. Throughout its first hundred years the school went through multiple name changes and status transformations which demonstrated how Algerian agricultural practices had developed. The Agricultural Institute of Algeria opened its doors to students in 1921 which later became National Agriculture School of Algiers in 1947 to achieve European agricultural school status of major cities. The organization became the National Institute of Agronomy in 1968 through national reforms which lasted for four decades. The Higher National Agronomic School received official recognition in 2008 which established its status as a primary government institution for rural development and agricultural research.
